Ly Quoc Su Street
Located in Hoan Kiem District, Ly Quoc Su Street has one end at the intersection of Hang Bong and Hang Manh Streets and the other end heading south to Nha Tho Street.
Ly Quoc Su Street remains one of the most vibrant and exciting streets in the heart of Hanoi. Historically, the street was part of Tien Thi village in Tho Xuong district and was referred to as Rue Lamblo during the French colonial period.
Stretching 250 meters, Ly Quoc Su Street features a fascinating blend of both traditional and modern influences. The name “Ly Quoc Su” translates to “The national doctor of the Ly Dynasty,” a title given to Nguyen Minh Khong from Diem Xa village in Ninh Binh province. He gained fame for curing King Ly Than Tong of a debilitating illness that had stumped many renowned physicians. Due to his remarkable skills, he earned the title “Ly Quoc Su” and was honored with a tranquil resting place near Bao Thien Pagoda, which is now known as Ly Quoc Su Pagoda.
In 2025, Ly Quoc Su Street has undergone significant transformation, now lined with an array of clothing stores, eateries, and souvenir shops. The street has become a favorite destination for both local and international food enthusiasts, offering a variety of renowned dishes such as chao trai (oyster porridge), banh trang tron (mixed rice paper salad), and banh goi (pillow cakes). With its rich historical significance and cultural essence, Ly Quoc Su Street is an impressive feature among Hanoi’s thoroughfares and is considered a must-visit location for travelers.
