Vietnam Weather

July is marked by sweltering days, and summer flooding can often occur in August. Hanoi has a history of flooding, which is most notable during heavy rains. This week, Hanoi’s weather is showing conditions that could deter some travelers, as heavy rain showers appear unexpectedly throughout the day. These brief yet intense storms can leave you drenched before the skies clear—only for another round of rain to arrive shortly after. Today, Hanoi is experiencing sunshine, but don’t be surprised if rain interrupts, especially as we head into the weekend.

The rainy weather isn't limited to the north; many southern regions will also experience wet conditions throughout the week, with Ho Chi Minh City remaining damp as well. While the weather may not be ideal for beach enthusiasts or trekkers, it's perfect for enjoying a cup of Vietnamese coffee or savoring a hotpot in cozy corners of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City

The frequent rains in July (or August in the lunar calendar) connect to a Vietnamese fairy tale titled “Nguu Lang, Chuc Nu.” This story tells of Nguu Lang and Chuc Nu, lovers separated by the Jade Emperor, who allowed them to reunite once a year on the 7th of July (Lunar calendar). Their emotional reunion brings tears, resulting in the daylong rains of July.
