“Ca Tru” National Festival to be held in Hanoi

2011 national festival on the cultural heritage “Ca tru” (Vietnam classic opera) is taking place in Hanoi from13th to 16th October 2011.

This year, the national festival celebrating the cultural heritage of Ca Tru (Vietnamese classical opera) is set to take place in Hanoi from October 13th to 16th.

The event will feature performances from regions where the cultural heritage of “Ca Tru” has originated and developed over the years, including Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City.

“Ca Tru” is a distinct form of traditional music in Vietnam. Emerging in the early sixteenth century, this unique genre showcases a harmonious blend of lyrics, remarkable vocal techniques, and various musical instruments such as percussion, strings, and drums. “Ca Tru” has established its significant role in the world of folklore music, both locally and internationally.

On October 1, 2009, “Ca Tru” was designated as the fourth cultural heritage of Vietnam recognized by UNESCO. It is listed as an intangible cultural heritage in urgent need of protection and preservation.
