Sa Sung

Everyone knows that Quang Ninh is famous for its stunning scenery, vibrant culture, and hospitable people. However, not many visitors are aware of a unique seafood delicacy that can only be found in this region. This special seafood is known as Sai Sung, or Sa Sung, offering yet another compelling reason to explore Quang Ninh in 2025.

Sa Sung is predominantly found along the coastline of Van Hai Island Province, particularly in the Minh Chau and Quan Lan districts. This elusive seafood resides in the shallow tidal zones, where it thrives amidst the ebb and flow of the ocean. When the tide recedes, locals engage in a swift search for Sai Sung, often using their hands to dig through the sand. A skilled digger employs years of experience, performing quick, precise movements that resemble a dance on the beach. Once collected, the Sa Sung is typically fried with fragrant garlic, resulting in a deliciously buttery dish. This fried specialty is often referred to as Moi Xao, a well-loved culinary treat associated with Ha Long.

Another popular method of preparation involves drying the Sa Sung before roasting them. The final dish boasts an irresistible golden hue and is enhanced by a sprinkle of sea salt. When served, these roasted Sa Sung are typically accompanied by a zesty chili sauce for dipping. Though not everyone has the opportunity to savor this unique food, those who do agree that the combination of fried Sa Sung, fresh lettuce, and a cold beer is an unforgettable experience that exceeds expectations.
