“Ca Tru” National Festival to be held in Hanoi

The national festival on the cultural heritage of “Ca Tru” (Vietnamese traditional opera) is scheduled to take place in Hanoi from October 12th to 15th 2025.
The event will feature participants from regions where the cultural heritage of “Ca Tru” has its roots and has developed over the years, including Bac Giang, Bac Ninh, Hanoi, Hai Duong, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Ho Chi Minh City.
“Ca Tru” is a form of traditional music in Vietnam. Originating in the early 16th century, it represents a unique genre of artistic expression, characterized by the harmonious combination of lyrics, exceptional vocal techniques, and musical instruments including percussion, stringed instruments, and drums. “Ca Tru” continues to play a vital role in preserving the folklore music scene both locally and internationally.
As of October 1, 2009, “Ca Tru” is recognized as the fourth cultural heritage of Vietnam by UNESCO. It has been classified as an intangible cultural heritage that requires urgent protection and preservation.
