Although going through many struggles during the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam impressively surpassed Nepal (former winner in 2019 and 2020), Thailand, Laos, and Indonesia. The award not only recognizes the constant effort of VNAT in adapting and recovering tourism activities but also affirms Vietnam’s attractiveness and tourism potential to foreign travelers.
During the epidemic, VNAT has supported travel businesses and employees in many aspects such as fiscal policy, preferential loans, employee subsidy, tax and fee decrease for tourism businesses, a social security policy for tour guides, and so on. Furthermore, VNAT has implemented a pilot program to welcome international tourists and gradually restarted domestic tourism in a safe condition.
At the 28th World Travel Awards, Vietnam received many precious awards including Asia’s Leading Destination, Asia’s Leading Sustainable Destination, Asia's Leading Cultural City Destination 2021 (Hoi An City), Asia’s Leading National Park (Cuc Phuong National Park), Asia’s Leading Tourism Attraction (Ha Long Bay).
On November 8, the ministry of transport submitted a proposal to the Prime Minister regarding the reopening of international flights to 15 countries and territories in 3 periods.
The reputable U.K magazine Condé Nast Traveler has recently voted Vietnam among the top 30 ideal destinations to travel in October.
According to the draft plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Vietnam will resume some destinations from November and expect to fully reopen tourism for international tourists from June 2022.
