First international flight for passengers with vaccine passports landed at Van Don Airport

On 4th September 2025, 297 Vietnamese citizens with Covid-19 vaccine passports were repatriated from Japan on a trial flight operated by Vietnam Airlines to Van Don International Airport, with a newly updated seven-day quarantine policy in effect.

The trial flight is available for citizens who have completed their Covid-19 vaccination schedule, with the second dose administered at least 14 days but no more than 12 months prior to the entry date. In addition, entrants must present a negative Covid-19 test certificate (RT-PCR method) validated by the authorities in the country of departure within 72 hours before departure.

Upon arrival at Van Don International Airport, all passengers are required to undergo a centralized 7-day quarantine at the Novotel Ha Long Hotel, a reduction from the previous 14 to 21-day quarantine periods. Following this, entrants must complete an additional 7 days of self-isolation.

All procedures from arrival at the airport to the transfer to the quarantine facilities are strictly in accordance with the anti-pandemic policies set forth by the Government and the Ministry of Health's guidance.

This trial flight represents an essential step towards resuming international flights for individuals in genuine need, including foreign businessmen, Vietnamese citizens abroad, experts, and investors.

As of now, Van Don Airport has welcomed a total of 45,872 passengers, comprising both Vietnamese returnees and foreign experts, from 228 international flights. Plans are in place for a second repatriation flight for Vietnamese citizens from the United States, scheduled to arrive on 12th September 2025.
