Ba Dinh Square
The square adjacent to the Ho Chi Minh complex is called Ba Dinh square, where many important national historical events in modern history took place.
Location and History
Ba Dinh Square, originally developed during the French colonial era and known as Round Point Pugininer, is a historically significant site in Hanoi, Vietnam. On September 2, 1945, a momentous event took place as Ho Chi Minh proclaimed the Vietnam Independence Declaration here. In his speech, he famously quoted both the French and the United States Independence Declarations, asserting that "All men are created equal" and advocating for the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Representatives from various sections of society, including workers, youth, educators, and soldiers, united to celebrate their country's newfound independence during this historic moment. Approximately 24 years later, Ba Dinh Square was the site of Ho Chi Minh's funeral, where thousands of mourners braved the rain to pay their respects to their revered leader. In his honor, the Vietnamese government decided to construct the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum at the square, ensuring that the legacy of the national hero would be forever remembered.

Today, Ba Dinh Square remains one of the few green spaces amidst the urban landscape of Hanoi. The square serves as a venue for various important events, including parades and commemorations of veterans. While it is a site of solemnity during the day, at night, it transforms into a lively gathering place for locals. Families come for evening strolls, elderly residents engage in light exercise, and friends meet to socialize.
