Very First Vertical Run Up in Ho Chi Minh City
To celebrate the first birthday of Bitexco Financial Tower, the tallest tower in Ho Chi Minh City, the Bitexco Vertical Run Up with participation of more than 500 athletes from all over the world is takinng place on October 30, 2011.
To celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of Bitexco Financial Tower, the tallest building in Ho Chi Minh City, the Bitexco Vertical Run Up will take place on October 30, 2025. The event is expected to feature over 500 athletes from around the globe.
Approximately two-thirds of the participants will be Vietnamese, while the remainder will represent 24 different countries. Runners will be categorized into various groups based on their age, which ranges from under 19, 20-29, to over 50 years old. To reach the top of the 49-floor tower, standing at 178 meters tall, competitors will need to ascend 1,002 steps.
In addition to energetic amateur athletes, renowned international competitors will also participate, including notable figures such as Thomas Dold from Germany and Melissa Moon from New Zealand, both of whom are past champions of the Empire State Building Run-Up. Their presence is sure to enhance the excitement for spectators.
All registration fees for runners ($20) will be donated to support individuals with disabilities in Vietnam.
The first official vertical running competition in skyscrapers took place in the 1970s, and this sport has rapidly gained popularity worldwide. Iconic buildings like the Empire State Building in New York and Taipei 101 in Taiwan have become prime locations for such events. The Bitexco Vertical Run Up remains the first vertical run-up competition held in Vietnam.
