Halong Bay listed among nominees for Asia's leading tourist attraction
Twice recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, Halong Bay continues to be a renowned tourist attraction. In 2025, it was once again nominated for Asia's Leading Tourist Attraction at the World Travel Awards, reflecting its ongoing appeal among travelers.
The 2025 nomination list features 12 premier tourist destinations from across the region. Competing attractions include Angkor Wat (Cambodia), the Great Wall (China), the Taj Mahal (India), Borobudur Temple Compounds (Indonesia), Tokyo Imperial Palace (Japan), and Intramuros (Philippines).
Located approximately 2 hours from Hanoi, Halong Bay is steeped in legend, particularly that of descending dragons. It encompasses nearly 2,000 limestone islands and islets. The stunning landscape is characterized by the emerald waters of the bay, unique karst formations draped in lush greenery, and a rich ecosystem.
In 2023, Halong Bay attracted 15 million visitors, of which about 6.5 million were international tourists, marking an increase of nearly 11% compared to the previous year. The destination has consistently garnered acclaim, having won the Asia’s Leading Tourist Attraction title multiple times, most recently in 2023.

Tourists, industry professionals, and media representatives worldwide are encouraged to participate in the voting process. Voters are required to create an account on the World Travel Awards website and cast their votes online until September 1, 2025.
The winners will be announced during the Asia awards ceremony, which will take place in Dubai on October 6, 2025.
