On 4th August, 2025, Ho Khanh, the renowned guide for grotto exploration in Quang Binh, announced the discovery of two new grottoes in the area.
The grotto designated as Grotto 97 measures 765 meters in length, while Grotto 98 extends 750 meters. Although their lengths are shorter compared to many other grottoes in Quang Binh, both boast an impressive array of beautiful and stunning stalactites that enhance their allure. According to Ho Khanh, the ceilings of these grottoes soar to a height of 60 meters, with the stalactites themselves reaching up to 30 meters in height. Notably, the floors of these grottoes are remarkably smooth and flat, creating a striking contrast to the rugged, uneven surfaces typically found in other grottoes.
The names of the two grottoes were chosen by Ho Khanh as a reminder of his experience getting lost during an exploration trip in the 1990s.
Grottoes 97 and 98 are located within the Phong Nha-Ke Bang World Heritage Site, recognized as one of the most significant grotto systems globally. The discovery of these two new grottoes further emphasizes the breathtaking beauty and ecological significance of the grotto system in Quang Binh, enhancing the region's reputation as an appealing and adventurous destination.
