Another strange show by “Master of the Mental” Dao Anh Khanh
Famed Vietnamese contemporary artist Dao Anh Khanh will hold a special show as a celebration of “1000 Year Flow” at his 5,000m2 studio in Gia Lam, Hanoi at 7.30 PM, 21 October 2011. The show is organized by the artist himself without any external funding.

The night will feature outstanding contemporary music performances by renowned modern artists from Vietnam, including Xuan Son, Vu Nhat Tan, and Nguyen Van Thao. Additionally, the event will serve as a cultural exchange between Vietnam and America, showcasing talented artists from New York, such as bassist Brett Zweiman, Marc Gaetanni, and Michael Stewart.
The show will open with performances by the American artists, incorporating instruments like the bass, organ, and drums. They will also showcase their remarkable skills on the Vietnamese one-stringed instrument, “Đàn Bầu,” in their uniquely spontaneous styles.
Following this, Vietnamese artists will take the stage with a jazzy rhythm infused by composer Tri Minh, the distinctive sounds of composer Vu Nhat Tan, and particularly captivating performances by host Dao Anh Khanh, who is known for his extraordinary musical style. The last 15 minutes of the event will invite guests to choose from various musical instruments available and join the band in a collaborative jam session.
Dao Anh Khanh has established himself as a significant figure in contemporary art in Vietnam, often referred to as the “Master of The Mental.” After a serious injury during his previous career as a policeman, he made a profound transition into the arts, ultimately flourishing as a contemporary artist.
