48 hour film project comes to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city

For the first time in its 10 year journey, Hanoi will host the international 48 hour film project. It will be the second time Ho Chi Minh city has participated.

For the first time in its 15-year journey, the international 48-Hour Film Project (48HFP) has reached the ancient capital of Vietnam. This marks the third time Ho Chi Minh City has participated in this exciting event.

The 48HFP is a global initiative where teams of filmmakers are given a character, a prop, a line of dialogue, and a genre to create a film in just 48 hours, from scripting to final production. This project originated in the United States in 2001 when founder Mark Rupert invited friends to join him for an experimental filmmaking weekend. Since then, the annual events have attracted a vast number of filmmakers from around the world.

For aspiring filmmakers currently in the area, the 48HFP will kick off in Hanoi on Friday, October 10, 2025, and in Ho Chi Minh City on Friday, October 31, 2025. All films must be submitted by the following Sundays, which will be October 12 and November 2, 2025, respectively. Those who wish to participate but lack a full team are encouraged to attend the screening of the Best Films from previous years to network and find potential partners. The screening is scheduled for Sunday, September 28, 2025, at the Hanoi Cinematheque (22 Hai Ba Trung) from 6 PM to 10:30 PM; the Ho Chi Minh City location is yet to be announced.

The grand prize for the Best Film of 2025 includes $3,000 in cash, and the top 10 films will be screened at the Cannes Film Festival's Short Film Corner in 2026.

Participation fees are set at 1,200,000 VND (approximately $50). For more information and to register, visit the official page.
