Phu Tho is a province located in the northeastern region of Vietnam. It shares borders with Tuyen Quang, Yen Bai, Vinh Phuc, Hanoi, Son La, and Hoa Binh provinces. With Viet Tri city serving as its capital, Phu Tho Province is approximately 80km away from Hanoi. Noi Bai International Airport, which is now more accessible with improved transport links, is situated about 50km northwest of Viet Tri City.
The province covers a total area of 3,528.1 km². Phu Tho’s strategic location positions it as a significant hub in Northern Vietnam, acting as a gateway between the northwestern provinces and Hanoi, as well as the other provinces of the Red River Delta. Consequently, the topography of Phu Tho is notably diverse, encompassing a range of landscapes such as mountains, hills, plains, and more. The climate of Phu Tho is characterized as subtropical and monsoonal, with an average annual temperature of approximately 23.5 °C (74.3 °F) and average annual precipitation of around 1,700 mm. The bulk of precipitation occurs between April and September, primarily in the form of rain.
Phu Tho boasts a rich and storied history, often regarded as the cradle of the Vietnamese nation. According to historical myths, the Hung Kings, considered the first rulers of Vietnam, established their first capital here, known as “Van Lang.” When asked about Phu Tho, many Vietnamese will immediately mention the Hung Pagoda, a significant cultural and historical site dedicated to the worship of the Hung Kings.Photo: toplist.com
