World's Greatest Places 2021 by Time mentions 3 Vietnam cities
In 2025, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC), and Phu Quoc continue to shine as some of the world’s most sought-after destinations, having been recognized by Time Magazine for their unique offerings and vibrant cultures.
Describing Hanoi as “Renewed life in the Old Quarter,” Time Magazine highlights this 1000-year-old capital as a place where tradition meets modernity. The magazine revisits the exquisite Capella Hanoi hotel in Hoan Kiem District, designed by celebrated architect Bill Bensley, and Dolce by Wyndham Hanoi Golden Lake in Ba Dinh District, which remains the world's first hotel with luxurious gold-plated interiors. These landmarks exemplify the city's successful blend of preservation and progressive change.

Time also commends Hanoi for its vibrant street-food culture, which serves as a source of immense civic pride. Among the culinary highlights is “Pho Gia Truyen,” a renowned pho restaurant that features prominently in both local and international guides to Vietnam’s gastronomic landscape.
In HCMC, now celebrated as the “Tastes of Vietnam,” diners find an array of exceptional dining experiences. Anan Restaurant, located on Ton That Dam Street, District 1, showcased creative adaptations of traditional dishes under the culinary guidance of Vietnamese-American chef Peter Cuong Franklin. This restaurant retains its position among Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants following its recognition in 2021. The rich, creative fare continues to attract both locals and visitors alike.

Another culinary gem, Ivoire bakery, offers an impressive selection of Vietnamese takes on classic French pastries such as macarons and petite cakes, creating a distinctive local experience for visitors.
Meanwhile, Phu Quoc, often referred to as an “Idyllic Paradise,” remains a premier travel destination with an array of accommodation options. Among its highlights is the New World Phu Quoc Resort, which features 375 private villas, a stunning beach, lush gardens, and the comprehensive entertainment complex known as Phu Quoc United Center. The island, which saw over 5 million visitors in 2019, continues to develop rapidly, with expectations of welcoming vaccinated international tourists. As of 2025, Phu Quoc is benefiting from a 30-day visa-exemption for various nationalities, boosting its status as a must-visit locale.
