From September 24th to 26th, Kate Festival 2025 of the Cham people will take place in the Po Sah Inu tower and Cham villages in Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province.

Kate is celebrated annually on the first day of the seventh month according to the Cham calendar, making it a significant cultural event for the Cham ethnic community, akin to the Tet holiday for the Kinh people. This festival serves as an important occasion for the Cham people to express their reverence for deities and honor their ancestors.

Traditionally, the festival will feature a procession of the palanquin and costumes of the Po Sah Inu Goddess, along with a ceremony to open the tower’s gate, paving the way for the Linga and Yoni rites. Additionally, attendees can look forward to vibrant folk music performances, brocade weaving contests, cake-making demonstrations, and an array of engaging folk games, making this event particularly exciting.

The festival will be hosted by the Cham community in Ham Thuan Bac district. Nevertheless, many folk music performances will be presented with contributions from Cham artists from neighboring districts such as Ham Phu, Ham Tri, and Ma Lam town. Tourists attending the festival will have a wonderful opportunity to immerse themselves in Cham rituals and learn to play traditional musical instruments, including the Ginang and Baranung drums, as well as the Saranai horn, guided by local artisans. If the allure of the pristine white sandy beaches and azure waters, paired with the first-class services of resorts in Mui Ne, captivates you, there is no better time to explore the rich culture of this region. Be sure to plan your trip soon and include the Kate Festival on your itinerary!
