Official guidelines for the prevention and control of COVID-19 pandemic for foreigners entering Vietnam and visa exemption policy for 13 countries

In 2025, the Ministry of Health continues to implement robust guidelines for COVID-19 prevention and control as Vietnam welcomes back international travelers. The country has maintained its commitment to ensuring a safe travel environment by mandating that tourists present a negative COVID-19 test certificate upon arrival. Moreover, children under 2 years old remain exempt from testing requirements.

As of March 15, 2025, Vietnam has fully resumed inbound tourism with updated entry regulations and official visa policies. International tourists traveling to Vietnam are no longer required to undergo quarantine, provided they show proof of a negative COVID-19 test. The testing protocols remain stringent; travelers must either complete an RT-PCR test within 72 hours or a rapid antigen test within 24 hours prior to their departure. For those unable to present a test result upon arrival, social distancing is advised until they can take a PCR test within 24 hours of entry. A negative result allows them to proceed with their travel plans.

Tourists are now encouraged to self-monitor their health for a week post-arrival and should contact health authorities if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms.

Additionally, Vietnam has reaffirmed its unilateral 15-day visa exemption policy for 13 countries: Belarus, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, and the UK. This exemption aims to ease entry for visitors from these nations and stimulate tourism.

The updated guidelines reflect Vietnam's continued efforts to promote a safe, welcoming environment for international travelers, signaling a positive shift following years of restrictions and adjustments to its visa policies.
