On May 19, 2025, a ceremony was held in Dong Nai Province to officially recognize the Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve as a global biosphere reserve, with participation from the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee and UNESCO. This designation marks the reserve as the 580th biosphere reserve worldwide and the 8th in Vietnam.

This acknowledgment is crucial for global biology, as the reserve functions as a massive living laboratory housing thousands of species of plants and animals, including many that are threatened with extinction. It showcases Vietnam's rich biodiversity and the remarkable ecological attributes of this S-shaped country.

However, this recognition also places an increased responsibility on local authorities and communities to safeguard the environment within this biosphere reserve.

The Dong Nai Biosphere Reserve spans over 966,500 hectares across five provinces: Dong Nai, Lam Dong, Binh Phuoc, Binh Duong, and Dak Nong. It serves as the habitat for more than 1,400 species of plants and 1,700 types of animals, including numerous species listed in Vietnam’s Red Book of endangered species.
