Another strange show by “Master of the Mental” Dao Anh Khanh

Famed Vietnamese contemporary artist Dao Anh Khanh will hold a special show as a celebration of “1000 Year Flow” at his 5,000m2 studio in Gia Lam, Hanoi at 7.30 PM, 21 October 2011. The show is organized by the artist himself without any external funding.

The night features outstanding contemporary music performances from renowned modern artists in Vietnam, such as Xuan Son, Vu Nhat Tan, and Nguyen Van Thao. Additionally, the show serves as a cultural exchange event between Vietnam and the United States, showcasing talented artists from New York, including bassist Brett Zweiman, Marc Gaetanni, and Michael Stewart.

The performances will open with American artists utilizing instruments such as bass, organ, and drums, along with their captivating renditions of the Vietnamese traditional instrument “Đàn Bầu” (one-string zither) in their spontaneous styles.

Subsequently, Vietnamese artists will take the stage, featuring jazzy rhythms from composer Tri Minh, experimental sounds from composer Vu Nhat Tan, and particularly striking performances by host Dao Anh Khanh. The final 15 minutes of the event will be dedicated to audience participation, allowing guests to choose from a variety of musical instruments and jam along with the band.

Dao Anh Khanh is a well-known figure in contemporary art in Vietnam, often referred to as the "Master of The Mental." Formerly a policeman, he transitioned to the arts following a serious injury during his service, evolving into a prominent contemporary artist.
