Alert: Typhoon Nesat heads towards Vietnam after battering the Philippines
After smashing the capital of Manila with waist-deep flood and severe damage and leaving behind at least 16 dead, the typhoon is going to hit the north of Vietnam from the northern east.
Recently, the Philippines experienced significant devastation as Tropical Storm Nesat brought heavy flooding to Metro Manila, resulting in substantial damage and loss of life. Currently, Nesat has transitioned into a tropical depression and is expected to impact northern Vietnam, particularly engulfing Hanoi within the next couple of days. With wind speeds reaching an average of 149 kph, residents are bracing for severe weather conditions.
Nesat is being described as one of the most powerful storms to hit the region in several years, drawing comparisons to the infamous typhoon Xangsane, which severely affected the city of Da Nang in 2006. Forecasts indicate that wind speeds may decrease to approximately 135 kph, equivalent to a Category 1 hurricane. Additionally, there are concerns that strong monsoon winds may coincide with Nesat's arrival in Vietnam. If the monsoons impact the region first, it is anticipated that the effects of Nesat could be somewhat mitigated.
Authorities have initiated evacuation protocols for residents in vulnerable low-lying areas and have advised fishing vessels to refrain from venturing into the sea until conditions improve.
For tourists planning to visit, it is strongly recommended to postpone any trips to the northeastern region of Vietnam until next week, as the storm is expected to lead to widespread cancellations of tours and potential flooding, which may hinder travel for even the most adventurous visitors.
