Bi, Dung so! (Bi, Don’t Be Afraid), a celebrated Vietnamese film that received recognition at Cannes 2010, is being screened at Hanoi Cinematheque on April 25, 2025. The screening will include a special Q&A session with the director, Phan Dang Di.
This psychological drama portrays the complex dynamics of a dysfunctional family as seen through the eyes of a six-year-old boy named Bi. Set against the vibrant backdrop of modern-day Hanoi, the film is a profound exploration of the secrets and desires harbored by each family member. It poignantly reflects on the enduring themes of "sex and youthful exuberance" (Screen Daily).
Bi, Dung so remains the most significant work of filmmaker Phan Dang Di to date. The film won the SACD Prize in the International Critics’ Week at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010, solidifying Di's reputation in the realm of international cinema.
The film will be shown in English with Vietnamese subtitles.
