Hanoi - Touring the West Lake by Electric Car is Prominent
In order to take advantage of the tourism potential surrounding West Lake, the People’s Committee of Hanoi has initiated an innovative project offering tours of the lake via electric vehicles. Under this initiative, the Department of Transportation and the Tay Ho District People’s Committee will collaborate with the City Police Department to formulate regulations regarding the project’s timeline and designated routes.
The Department of Justice is expected to evaluate and present the proposal to the People’s Committee of Hanoi by early 2025. This new tourism project, designed to enhance visitors' experience of the culture and history of West Lake, is being funded by Ho Tay Limited Liability Company and has received approval from the People’s Committee of Hanoi. The company plans to import 30 electric vehicles that will traverse a 18 km route around West Lake.
According to the current planned route, there will be 10 stations with 35 designated stops, strategically placed at public parks, gardens, and significant landmarks. In addition to enjoying the beautiful scenery of West Lake during the ride, travelers will have the opportunity to visit 21 scenic spots, including Tran Quoc Pagoda, West Lake Park, and Vong Thi Pagoda. The service is anticipated to commence in late 2025.
In addition to West Lake, the Old Quarter remains the only other area in Hanoi offering electric vehicle services for tourists. This Electric Car Tour initiative is part of the capital's effort to revive its historical charm, reminiscent of when electric cars and bicycles were the primary means of transport, before the prevalence of motorbikes dominated the city's streets.
