Concert celebrates Vietnamese traditional music

Vietnam Traditional Orchestra, featuring more than 80 talented traditional musicians from Vietnam National Academy of Music, is delivering a spectacular performance at 8:00pm, 26 May at Hanoi Opera House.

Vietnam Traditional Orchestra, featuring more than 80 talented traditional musicians from Vietnam National Academy of Music, is delivering a spectacular performance at 8:00pm, 26 May at Hanoi Opera House.

The program includes an eclectic combination of music genres, from the beloved Western classic Hungarian Rhapsody No.2 by Liszt, to Japanese, Chinese and Vietnamese traditional folk music. Those pieces will be casted a new light with rare and unique Vietnamese musical instruments such as Dan Bau, a one-string zither, Dan Nhi, two-string vertical violin and Dan Tam Thap Luc, hammered dulcimer with 36 metal strings.

Traditional Vietnamese musical instruments comprises of a wide range of string, wind and percussion instruments, used by both the Viet (Kinh) majority as well as other ethnic minorities. Vietnam Traditional Orchestra was just established in 2009, but their virtuoso musicianship and passion have won the heart of many audiences.
