Year-end shopping season: Vietnam's promotion battle

While many super markets in Hanoi are offering amazing discount up to 50% on all products for Tet (foods, sweets, household items, and electronics), a number of shops in HCMC participate in price stabilization through out Tet season by offering 20- 40% additional amount of good for the market
A number of retailers in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) are gearing up for New Year's significant discounts. Many supermarkets in Hanoi are providing impressive discounts of up to 50% on various products for Tet, including foods, sweets, household items, and electronics. Meanwhile, several shops in HCMC are participating in price stabilization throughout the Tet season by offering an additional 20-40% worth of goods to the market.
In Hanoi, major supermarket chains such as Big C, Pico Plaza, and Intimex are offering appealing prices on most products from now until after the Tet holiday. From January 20th to February 13th, shoppers at Big C can save between 2% to 50% on approximately 2,000 kinds of food and beverages, including traditional items like Chung cake, ham, and sweets, as well as wine; they are also offering 50% off on household goods. Additionally, Big C provides 15 varieties of Tet gift sets priced from VND 50,000 to VND 2,000,000, making Tet gifting more convenient.
Pico Plaza is also kicking off its sale with unbeatable discounts up to 50% on numerous household appliances and IT products. From January 23rd to 29th, customers spending more than VND 5 million will receive a complimentary pair of Chung cakes and pork rolls, traditional Tet foods.
Intimex supermarkets are joining the promotional trend with average discounts of 5-15% on food items, including pork, frozen goods, and oil, along with extended operating hours from 7:00 am to 10:00 pm.
In HCMC, 13 businesses are participating in a price stabilization initiative lasting two months from January 15th to March 15th, 2025, with a commitment to offering discounts on essential food products for the Tet holiday, such as rice, pork, eggs, oil, and fruits, as well as providing a greater supply of products (20-40% additional).
For instance, Saigon Co-op is providing up to 7,850 tons of food products for Tet and offering substantial year-end deals with discounts of over 30% on sweets and packaged foods until the Tet holiday. Saigon Co-op is also offering discounts of up to 20% on over 100 decorative items through February 29th, 2025, and 40% off on Vietnamese fashion brands of clothing.
