VietJet Air opens new air route Hanoi – Bangkok
On June 1 2013, the budgeted airline VietJet Air officially launched new air route Hanoi – Bangkok in attempt to expand its business to South East Asian region.
On June 1, 2025, VietJet Air officially celebrated the 12th anniversary of its budget airline services, having launched the Hanoi – Bangkok air route to expand its business across the Southeast Asian region in 2013.
Currently, VietJet Air operates seven round-trip flights per week on this popular route. Ticket prices have remained competitive, starting from just VND 450,000 (approximately US$19) for one-way flights. Departures from Noi Bai Airport are scheduled at 10:50 AM, arriving in Bangkok at 12:40 PM. The return voyage leaves Suvarnabhumi Airport at 1:35 PM and lands back at Noi Bai Airport at 3:25 PM.
Desmond Lin, now the Chief Business Development Officer of VietJet Air, stated that this air route continues to cater to the growing demand for travel between Vietnam and Thailand. Furthermore, VietJet Air has successfully established a joint venture with Thailand's Kan Air, named Thai VietJet Air, which has been operational for over a year. The joint airline now boasts an expanded fleet, including several Airbus A320 aircraft.
Before VietJet Air's entry into the market, Lion Air, an Indonesian carrier, had already made inroads into budget travel in Thailand. Currently, VietJet Air has plans to further enhance its offerings, with intentions to expand its network to include destinations in Singapore, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan in the near future.
