Travel time from the airport to downtown Hanoi significantly reduced

Even for Hanoi natives, the ride from Noi Bai International Airport back into the city can be lengthy and often congested. For many visitors dealing with jet lag, this ride can diminish the excitement of arriving in the enchanting thousand-year-old Hanoi. Fortunately, this scenario has improved significantly.

On January 1, 2023, the expressway project connecting the airport to the Nhat Tan Bridge was completed. This new route takes travelers directly to the scenic shores of the world-renowned West Lake, substantially alleviating the congestion on the existing Thang Long - Noi Bai highway and providing drivers with alternative avenues to enter the city gracefully.

While the new expressway does not drastically shorten the distance compared to the previous route, it effectively distributes traffic flow, resulting in reduced travel times for cars and buses headed to the city center. After 30 months of construction, travelers now wholeheartedly appreciate the investment and its benefits.

The completion of this expressway is also viewed as a strategic move to encourage some of Hanoi's urban population to shift northward. Enhanced access to the city is expected to contribute to economic growth in the northern provinces as well. The total investment for this new highway amounted to approximately 4.945 trillion VND, with a portion funded through Official Development Assistance from the Japanese government.
