A theater named Nón Lá (Conical Hat) dedicated to Vietnamese traditional music has officially opened at the Labor Culture Palace in District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, in March 2025. This two-storey building has a capacity of 250 seats and is positioned to be a cultural attraction for both locals and tourists interested in Vietnamese culture and music.

The theater features music shows lasting approximately 50 minutes every night, starting from early March 2025. The performances showcase an array of Vietnamese traditional music genres such as Ca trù, Chầu văn, Hát bội, and Nhã nhạc cung đình Huế (Hue royal music). In addition to vocal performances, audiences can also enjoy instrumental showcases featuring ethnic instruments such as gongs, bamboo flutes, and zithers.

Prior to each show, organizers provide audiences with flyers that outline the history of each genre of music in eight languages (Vietnamese, English, French, Spanish, Russian, Filipino, Japanese, and Chinese) to enhance their understanding of the music they are experiencing.

Occasional talk shows about Vietnamese folk songs, featuring participation from musical and cultural experts, are also slated to add more interest to the programming.

All seats in the theater are crafted from bamboo, a traditional Vietnamese material, to create an authentic space for experiencing Vietnamese music. According to Huynh An Tuan, the owner of Nón Lá Traditional Theater, there is now a culinary section adjacent to the theater that offers visitors delicious Vietnamese cuisine to enjoy during their waiting time before the show.

The opening of Nón Lá Traditional Theater with its nightly music shows offers both foreign tourists and local audiences in Ho Chi Minh City a new option for enjoying traditional Vietnamese arts. Previously, the Ho Chi Minh Opera House offered audiences “The Soul of Vietnam”—a special series of monthly performances on traditional Vietnamese music, presented in both Vietnamese and English.

Ticket prices and additional information are now available on the theater's official website.
