The 40th year anniversary of German video art to come up
A series of activities to celebrate the 40th year anniversary of German video art will be held at Goethe Institution, Hanoi from 24th September to 2nd October.
A series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of German video art will be held at the Goethe Institute, Hanoi, from September 24 to October 2, 2025.
The event will commence with an introductory speech by renowned artistic professor Rotraut Pape at 4 PM on September 24, followed by a lecture on video art and its history at 3:30 PM on September 25. The highlight of this event will be an exhibition of German video art, taking place from September 25 to October 2, daily from 9 AM to 7 PM.
Over the course of this eight-day exhibition, attendees will have the opportunity to view 43 exceptional artistic videos created by prominent and innovative artists, including Wolf Kahler, Nam June Paik, and Joseph Beuys. The videos will be presented using advanced digital technology to preserve their original quality and enhance the audience's understanding of the 50-year evolution of German video art.
In addition to the exhibition, a complementary workshop on video art will be offered from September 19 to September 29 for young artists and interested participants looking to deepen their understanding of creating compelling artistic videos. The workshop will be led by Rotraut Pape, a distinguished professor of video art in Germany with over 30 years of research experience in the field, and Gerald Couty, a French writer and director known for his experimental approach to video art and his involvement in numerous international workshops.
Video art has emerged as a significant area within film and media arts since its introduction in the United States and Europe during the 1960s and 1970s. It encompasses a variety of moving images and audio-visual experiences conveying the creators' emotions and artistic expressions. In Germany, video art has gained popularity and has become an integral component of contemporary art.
