The 40th year anniversary of German video art to come up

A series of activities to celebrate the 40th year anniversary of German video art will be held at Goethe Institution, Hanoi from 24th September to 2nd October.

A series of activities to celebrate the 40th year anniversary of German video art will be held  at Goethe Institution, Hanoi from 24th September to 2nd October.

A brief introduction by the famous artistic professor, Rotraut Pape, will start the event at 4pm on 24th September, followed by a lecture about video art and its history at 3.30pm on 25th September. The major part of this event is an exhibition of German video art which will take place from 25th September to 2nd October (9am – 7pm).

During 8 days of this exhibition, audiences are offered chances to enjoy 43 outstanding artistic videos that were made by famous and talented artists including Wolf Kahler, Nam June Paik or Joshep Beuys. These videos will be shown in digital technology to remain its origins and help audiences fully understand the 40 years  of the development of German video art.

In addition to the exhibition,there is a complementary workshop on video art from 19th to 29th September for young artists and those who are interested in this topic to participate in and understand how a good artistic video is made. The workshops is led by Rotraut Pape, a famous professor on video art in Germany with more than 30 years researching on this field, and a French writer and director named Gerald Couty, who is experimental on video art with numerous global workshops.

Video Art has become a popular topic of filmography and media art since it has appeared in the U.S. and Europe in 1960s and 1970s. It includes numerous moving pictures and videos or audios that convey an experience or emotion of the creators. In Germany, video art has been popular and become integral part of the modern arts.
