Symphony to hit the streets
In an effort to bring classical music closer to the mass, musicians from Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra are going on a quest to provide 30 free street performances in Hanoi during next two months, in a community music project which has been titled Luala Concert.
In a bid to make classical music more accessible to the public, musicians from the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra are embarking on an exciting initiative—providing 30 free street performances in Hanoi throughout the upcoming months. This community music project is known as the Luala Concert.
The inaugural performance will take place on the pavement in front of the Music Publishing House, located at 61 Ly Thai To Street, from 3 to 5 PM on Saturday, November 15th, 2025. Following this, concerts will be held periodically at the same location on Saturdays from 3 to 5 PM and Sundays from 10 AM to 12 PM and 3 to 5 PM, with free admission for all.
Attendees at the concert will have the opportunity to enjoy a selection of classical masterpieces, including The Emperor Waltz (Johann Strauss), Symphony No. 137 and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Mozart), and Serenade for Strings (Tchaikovsky), all performed by a talented group of 20 string instrumentalists under the direction of violinist Xuan Huy.
The conductor commented that performing on the street presents a unique challenge compared to their usual performances in the Hanoi Opera House, as the orchestra must contend with the ambient noise of the busy traffic. Nevertheless, it promises to be an intriguing experience as they learn to navigate these distractions.
Organizers have plans to expand this initiative to other major cities across Vietnam, aiming to spread the joy of classical music to even more audiences.
