Suoi Voi – the hidden natural beauty of Hue

Mentioning about Hue, people may immediately think of an imperial city with a lot of historical relics, the magnificent Forbidden City, and a number of mysterious mausoleums of the Nguyen Dynasty. However, it is the established thinking, though.

When talking about Hue, many people instantly think of an imperial city filled with historical relics, including the magnificent Imperial City and the mysterious mausoleums of the Nguyen Dynasty. While this perception holds true, there is so much more to discover.

Just a short journey from the center of Hue leads to the stunning landscapes of its surrounding areas, offering fresh air and an array of fascinating natural features. A prime example of this beauty is Suoi Voi (Elephant Spring), located in Loc Tien Commune, Phu Loc District.

This remarkable attraction is situated approximately 60 km from Hue's city center and about 40 km from Da Nang, making it an ideal destination for a day trip. Contrary to its name, Suoi Voi is more than just a spring; it consists of a network of pristine water springs, boulders, mountains, and jungle that together create a captivating natural wonder. The crystal-clear waters beckon visitors to dive in for a swim, particularly on hot summer days, while the expansive boulders provide perfect spots to sunbathe and unwind.

Suoi Voi

One of the most fascinating features of Suoi Voi is a large rock that resembles a giant elephant with a long trunk. According to local legend, during a warm season, hundreds of elephants from Bach Ma Mountain would gather at this stream in search of cassava shrubs and other food. Intriguingly, they only visited during this time and never returned, leaving behind large impressions that eventually filled with water, forming small pools.

While visiting Suoi Voi, tourists can opt for accommodations in bamboo huts constructed by local residents on either side of the stream. Guests can immerse themselves in the soothing sounds of nature and enjoy the idyllic scenery that surrounds them.
