Quan họ folk singing promoted in Paris

Quan họ is a Vietnam’s antiphonal singing between men and women, created by Kinh ethnic group in the Northern provinces of Bắc Ninh and Bắc Giang long time ago.

Quan họ is a Vietnam’s antiphonal singing between men and women, created by Kinh ethnic group in the Northern provinces of Bắc Ninh and Bắc Giang long time ago. This kind of singing is an indispensable and much expected part in spring festival in many northern villages of Vietnam.

 
Though having been recognized as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, Quan họ - a long-standing and unique folk singing in the North of Vietnam remains unknown to most of French and other foreigners as well. 
 
With the purpose to introduce the beauty of this traditional art to international friends, Vietnam Institute of Culture and Arts Studies, Vietnam Cultural Center in France in coordination with Departments of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Bắc Ninh and Bắc Giang provinces (homelands of Quan họ) are going to host Quan họ exhibition and performance in France.
 
 
Quan họ singing in spring festival at Nothern villages of Vietnam
 
As scheduled, an exhibition of photos, objects and films about this folk singing are held at the office of Vietnam Cultural in France, from January 22 to February 22, 2012. About 50 photos, films and precious objects from private collections of Vietnam and foreign countries related to this singing art are exhibited. The presentations on Quan họ culture given by five expertsfrom Vietnam Institute of Culture Studies are expected to provide attendees a deeper understanding about Quan họ.
 
The event is scheduled to take place at Vietnam Cultural Center in Paris from January 18 to January 30, 2012.
