Public Wi-Fi is coming to town in Hanoi
The people committee of Hanoi is cooperating with the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) to set up public Wi-Fi access points on several tourist streets in the Old Quarter.
The People's Committee of Hanoi is collaborating with Vietnam Post and Telecommunications (VNPT) to establish public Wi-Fi access points on several tourist streets within the Old Quarter, a popular destination for both local and international tourists as of 2025.
According to Mr. To Van Dong, the Head of the Information and Communication Department of Hanoi, this initiative aims to promote the digital culture of Hanoi and enhance the overall experience for visitors. The city is focusing on providing public Wi-Fi strictly within the Old Quarter area, which has been recognized for attracting a significant number of foreign tourists.
Mr. Dong clarified that while the free Wi-Fi model is beneficial, it will not be implemented citywide due to high operational costs and security concerns associated with extended access.
Based on current plans, internet users will enjoy complimentary access to the Wi-Fi for the first 30 minutes. Afterward, they will have the option to purchase additional data plans at affordable rates, Mr. Dong explained.
