Planning Vaccine Passports program for tourism in Phu Quoc Island

The Vietnam Health Ministry together with the Tourism Ministry and other relevant organizations are planning to launch the trial of vaccine passports to welcome international tourists to some specific destinations that have been effectively controlling the new Coronavirus outbreak.

On June 22, Kien Giang province’s tourism ministry and authorities were asked to set up a plan of welcoming international tourists and submit it to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in July. The Culture, Sport, and Tourism in Kien Giang has been working hard on the plan and stresses compliance with Covid-19 prevention measures in any plan.

A vaccine Passport is issued by the country which administers the vaccine and in a digital document. Previously, three entrant groups identified by the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control are Vietnamese citizens who get stuck abroad and have been vaccinated, foreigners entering for business and investment, and eligible tourists with vaccine passports. Besides, Vietnam prioritized the countries that have good management and control of Covid-19 outbreaks as well as an effective vaccination program.

Phu Quoc is one of the most sought-after destinations thanks to not only the well-blessed landscape but also the visa-free policy in 30 days for international tourists. This provincial authority is also urgently implementing vaccination for the island’s citizens in order to restore international tourism as well as the local economy.
