Planning Vaccine Passports program for tourism in Phu Quoc Island

In 2025, the Vietnamese government, led by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism and various relevant organizations, continues to implement its program for vaccine passports. The initiative aims to welcome international tourists to specific destinations that have successfully managed the COVID-19 pandemic.

On June 22, 2025, authorities in Kien Giang province received directives to devise a comprehensive plan for welcoming international visitors, which is to be submitted to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh. The provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism is diligently working on this plan, emphasizing the need to adhere to ongoing health and safety protocols related to COVID-19.

A vaccine passport, as defined in this context, is a digital document issued by the country that administers the vaccine. As of now, Vietnam recognizes several groups for entry, including Vietnamese citizens stranded abroad who have been vaccinated, foreigners coming for business and investment, and eligible tourists possessing valid vaccine passports. The government prioritizes travelers from countries that demonstrate effective COVID-19 management and robust vaccination campaigns.

Phu Quoc remains one of the most attractive destinations in the country, celebrated for its stunning scenery and a visa-free policy allowing international tourists to stay for up to 30 days. The provincial authorities are actively enhancing vaccination efforts for local residents to facilitate the revival of international tourism and boost the local economy.
