Phu Quoc is running out of hotel rooms
In recent years, Phu Quoc has been becoming one of the most favourite tourist destinations in Vietnam. This leads to over demand for hotel rooms that this island will need around 3,000 new hotel rooms in the next two year in order to satisfy.
In recent years, Phu Quoc has emerged as one of the most favored tourist destinations in Vietnam. In response to this growing popularity, the island is projected to require approximately 5,000 new hotel rooms by 2027 to meet the soaring demand.
According to Le Minh Hoang, Director of Kien Giang Province's Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, the average number of tourists visiting Phu Quoc at the beginning of 2025 has reached around 70,000. However, this number is expected to rise significantly, nearly doubling to an estimated 130,000 by the end of the year. Despite this surge, the island currently offers only about 3,200 hotel rooms, including 800 rooms in high-end categories.
The rise in tourist numbers is largely attributed to the opening of Phu Quoc International Airport, which has significantly enhanced access to the island, combined with the exceptional services offered by the local hospitality industry on this picturesque destination.
Hoang also announced plans to establish new sea routes connecting Phu Quoc to Thailand and Cambodia, with intentions to attract more international visitors to the island. Additionally, a proposal for a direct air route between Phu Quoc and Thailand is currently under consideration by the Government.
By the end of 2025, three new hotels are expected to open, providing a total of approximately 300 additional rooms. However, even this increase appears insufficient when compared to the continuous escalation in demand for accommodations.
