New things to expect about this year's Hung King festival

Hung King festival is considered one of the largest and most important traditional events in Vietnam, which has hitherto been organized from the 5th to 10th of March (Lunar Calendar) in Vietnam. This is a special event when people all over Vietnam gather and commemorate their ancestor Hung Kings, who are regarded as the creators and first kings of Vietnam. This is also a time for all Vietnamese to express their patriotism and national solidarity.  

Information from Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee indicates that there will be some new special features on this year Hung King Festival. The first thing to be noticed is that this year, villages and regions near Hung King Temple's location will be organizing their processions to Hung King Temple to revive the once popular practice of people's presenting offerings to the Highness of the country. Moreover, the anniversary this year will also be visited by representatives of international diplomatic departments in Vietnam, UNESCO Vietnam and Vietnam National UNESCO Committee.

Besides ritual activities which play the main role of the anniversary, there are also various cultural activities on this occasion. Included in the long list are contests like making “Chung cake” and “Day cake” contests and traditional sport contests, as well as performances such as “Xoan” singing performances and other traditional dances.
 
Especially, this year's festival of Hung King also enjoys the participations of 5 more provinces along with the host province PhuTho, including Dien Bien, Binh Duong, Nghe An, Da Nang and Hai Phong.
