In order to develop tourism, which has long been considered a strength of Ho Chi Minh City, the city authorities have launched new policies for this service industry. These policies primarily aim to diversify types of tourism and enhance the quality of travel products. The initiatives focus on budget travel and "free & easy" tourism to provide tours that are affordable and sustainable. Annual tourism events and festivals are also being organized to promote the cultural value of this vibrant city.

Currently, the Ho Chi Minh City tourism department, which is part of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, is collaborating with the City Institute of Development in Tourism to research and implement a comprehensive plan aimed at improving the city’s tourism from 2021 to 2030. This plan includes the creation of more river tours, enhancing connections between Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Thuan, and Lam Dong, as well as collaborating with nearby provinces such as Khanh Hoa and Phu Yen. The city has also launched additional courses in hospitality, culinary arts, security, and tour guiding to enhance the skills of its tourism workforce.

In addition to the Ho Chi Minh City authorities’ efforts to attract more tourists, numerous tourism companies are also investing significantly to enhance their services. For instance, Mövenpick has completely refurbished its amenities, while REX Hotel is currently working on updating its older structures and establishing a new luxury plaza.

Ho Chi Minh City is regarded as a treasure trove for Vietnam’s tourism industry, offering an array of captivating tourism products. In the first nine months of 2025, it is estimated that around 4.5 million tourists visited HCMC, contributing approximately 47 trillion VND (approximately 2 billion USD) to the city’s economy.
