Massive airport plans in Vietnam

In order to guarantee that domestic aviation infrastructure is able to meet the increasing demand of both foreign and Vietnamese passengers, many new projects upgrading and constructing airports are proposed and implemented along Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

In order to ensure that domestic aviation infrastructure can meet the rising demand from both international and Vietnamese travelers, numerous new airport construction and upgrade projects have been proposed and are underway across Vietnam, from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City. These initiatives are spearheaded by the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) and are being funded by the Vietnamese government along with various international organizations.

The two largest airports, Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi and Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, are undergoing significant investments aimed at enhancing their capacity and infrastructure quality. Notably, Noi Bai International Airport is set to expand further, with plans to increase its annual passenger capacity to over 25 million by 2025, up from the previous goals established in earlier plans.

In addition to the primary airports, others in Central Vietnam are also receiving substantial funding for expansion and capacity enhancements. Chu Lai International Airport in Quang Nam is projected to undergo a $700 million investment, enabling it to accommodate 4.1 million passengers annually by 2025. Additionally, Cam Ranh International Airport in Khanh Hoa is advancing plans to construct a new terminal and extend its runway.

Moreover, ambitious plans are in place for the construction of new airports, including a $2 billion project on Van Don Island in Quang Ninh and a new airport on Phu Quoc Island, aiming to develop these locations into premier tourist destinations.

These initiatives are part of the Vietnamese government’s broader commitment to enhance the overall quality of its tourism offerings, aiming to attract more international visitors. The successful implementation of these projects is anticipated to bolster the national economy significantly.
