Large project on tourism applied to Northwest area

Information from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reveals that one of the greatest projects on development of Vietnam’s tourism industry will be launched in 2012 in 8 mountainous provinces in the North West area.

Information from Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reveals that one of the largest initiatives aimed at developing Vietnam’s tourism industry was launched in 2015, focusing on eight mountainous provinces in the northwest region. These provinces include Dien Bien, Yen Bai, Son La, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Ha Giang, Lai Chau, and Lao Cai. Local authorities have since expressed optimism that this project has revitalized tourism in these areas.

The primary objective of this project is to significantly enhance tourism in these regions through various media and advertising channels, aiming to attract a greater number of visitors to hundreds of tourism destinations located within these provinces. Additionally, conserving the unique cultural heritage and protecting the environment of local communities remain key priorities of this initiative.

To ensure the success of this initiative, the Northwest Travel Destination Management Board was established to oversee the progress of the project and to facilitate training programs for local residents, equipping them with the necessary skills to meet the project's demands. The funding for this initiative comes from the European Union and the Vietnamese government, with a total investment of EUR 12.1 million.

The Northwest region is regarded as one of Vietnam's key tourism areas, attracting millions of travelers each year and contributing significantly to the country’s GDP. The unique tourism offerings in this region focus on breathtaking natural landscapes and the rich traditions of diverse local communities.
