Khmer festival to take place in December

The 5th Southern Khmer Ethnic Minority Cultural Festival is coming soon, from 1/12 - 5/12/2011 in An Giang province with abundant cultural activities are waiting for visitors to discover.

The 5th Southern Khmer Ethnic Minority Cultural Festival is coming soon, from 1/12 - 5/12/2011 in An Giang province with abundant cultural activities are waiting for visitors to discover.

A wide range of cultural features is expected through activities such as boat races, traditional costume show, ethnic cuisine display and Vietnam-Cambodian Khmer cross-border exchange. The ox race however is supposed to be the most exciting part of the event.

Performances of twelve art troupes attending in the festival will be staged at Xuan Bien Industrial Park, Tinh Bien, An Giang, said the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and An Giang provincial People’s Committee at a press conference on November 22.

Ox racing is expected to be extremely exciting

This every three-year festival is among the most to be expected by the locals and visitors thanks to its special identity and festivity. Khmer people are struggling against the modern busy pace of life to preserve their traditions. With 87,000 residents in An Giang, out of the total 2 million Khmer civilians in the South of Vietnam, this ethnic group has been contributing significantly to the holistic development and the cultural diversity of Vietnam.
