International visitors to Vietnam increase over 24% in January

The Statistics Office of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reports that the number of international tourists to Vietnam in January is estimated to reach 630,000, increases 6.2% comparing with December 2011, 24.8% comparing with January 2011.

The Statistics Office of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism reports that the number of international tourists to Vietnam in January is estimated to reach 630,000, an increase of 6.2% compared with December 2011 and a 24.8% rise compared with January 2011.

Of these, 530,000 are air travelers (84.12%), while sea travelers are 5,000 (0.81%) and passengers coming by other transportations makes up 95,000 (15.7%). The number of visitors to Vietnam with tourism purpose is 365,000; business purpose is 110,000 and other purposes is 35,000. All figures increase significantly in comparison with the same period last year.

Largest tourist sending countries include: Cambodia, China, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, England, America and France. On the contrary, the same month witnesses a major fall in the number of Australian visitors of about 24.8%; and 14.5% less of other markets.

This is a positive sign for Vietnams tourism which might promise another successful year of Vietnam’s travel industry. In 2011, Vietnam welcomed over 6 million international tourists to the country and in 2012, the target is set at 6.5.
