The Hue Monuments Conservation Centre has announced the launch of the project to restore the Dien Phuoc Princess Temple, with a ceremony held on November 13, 2025.
This restoration project is funded with VND 2.2 billion (approximately US$105,000) through the support of UNESCO and Japan’s Waseda University. The funding will be used for various aspects of the project, including rebuilding parts of the temple utilizing traditional architecture and construction techniques.
A significant advantage of this restoration is that much of the temple's original architecture, including interior and exterior decorations, along with artifacts such as the bronze book detailing the Princess's deeds, have been remarkably preserved. This preservation enhances the effectiveness of the restoration efforts.
The temple was constructed in 1854 to honor Princess Dien Phuoc, the eldest daughter of King Thieu Tri of the Nguyen Dynasty. Its remarkable architecture and the techniques used in its construction are a testament to the significance of both the temple and Princess Dien Phuoc in Vietnam’s historical narrative.
