Ho Chi Minh City to initiate inner waterway tours

The People Committee of District 8 in Ho Chi Minh City, in association with Indochina Junk Company, has officially launched an inner waterway circular tour within Ho Chi Minh City.

The People Committee of District 8 in Ho Chi Minh City, in partnership with Indochina Junk Company, has officially relaunched an inner waterway circular tour within Ho Chi Minh City as of 2025.

This tour is a unique offering designed based on input from local tourism experts, who recognize the potential of the multicultural communities along these canals to enhance tourism, particularly for international visitors. This initiative is also part of the local authorities’ ongoing efforts to preserve traditional lifestyles and historical sites along these inner waterways.

The cruise tour begins at Bach Dang Quay in District 1 and accommodates up to 25 passengers. It lasts approximately 4 hours, showcasing various attractions along its route, which includes the Ben Nghe and Tau Hu canals as well as Vo Van Kiet Avenue. During the tour, guests enjoy a vegetarian lunch when the cruise pauses at Long Hoa Pagoda, located at Binh Dong Pier in Ward 15 (District 8).

Currently, the local authorities in District 8 and Ho Chi Minh City are closely monitoring the performance of this cruise tour and considering plans to permit additional tourism companies to develop similar offerings along the city’s canals.

Ho Chi Minh City, with its extensive network of inner waterways and canals, continues to present tremendous potential for cruise tourism. Given the numerous historical and cultural landmarks situated along these routes, it is anticipated that this type of tour will gain increasing popularity among both domestic and international travelers in the coming years.
