Himalayan Arts & Culture exhibition in Hanoi

The first of its kind “Himalayan Arts and Culture Exhibition” is taking place at Gallery Module 7 (No. 83 Xuan Dieu Street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi), from December 1st to December 4th, 2011.

 

The first of its kind “Himalayan Arts and Culture Exhibition” is taking place at Gallery Module 7 (No. 83 Xuan Dieu Street, Tay Ho District, Hanoi), from December 1st to December 4th, 2011. The show is expected to bring the unique and exotic art, tradition and culture of the sacred land closer to art enthusiasts in Vietnam.
 
The exhibition is co-organized by Nha Nam Culture, Media Company and Drukpa Vietnam, for the occasion of the visit of Khamtrul Rinpoche, supreme head of the Drukpa Lineage of Vajrayana Buddhism to Vietnam. 
 
Over 80 items including a number of gold and gem-inlaid bronze Buddhism statues, Thangka (Tibetan silk painting with embroidery), Mandala (bronze or gold-inlaid mosaic), traditional musical instruments, among many others, are being displayed in the exhibition.  All of these authentic art works are made by the best craftsmen in Nepal and typical of the Himalayan culture.

Himalayan art is indigenous to the Himalayas, and can be found in China, Mongolia, Southern Siberia and the surrounding areas of the Tibetan Plateau. It is primarily concerned with religious subjects (Buddhism) and recognizable through unique composition, symbols and motifs.
