HCMC bustling with activities for New Year and Tet Holiday

It is less than two weeks left until the New Year, and about five weeks until Tet holiday. Ho Chi Minh City, the liveliest city in Vietnam is more bustling than any other time of the year, with a lot of activities to celebrate these special occasions.

It is less than two weeks until the New Year and about five weeks until Tet Holiday. Ho Chi Minh City, the most vibrant city in Vietnam, is buzzing more than ever during this festive season, featuring a wealth of activities to celebrate these special occasions.

As is tradition, prominent streets like Dong Khoi, Le Loi, Nguyen Hue, and Le Duan will be illuminated with thousands of colorful lights in a program titled “Shining Welcome for New Year”. This year's light display will commence on December 26, 2024, and run through February 3, 2025.

On New Year’s Eve, spectacular fireworks will take place in the Thu Thiem area (District 2) and Dam Sen Park (District 11). Additionally, an outdoor music show is planned on Nguyen Hue Street from 9 PM until midnight on December 31, 2024, promising to enhance the festive atmosphere.

To celebrate Tet, the city will host the Banh Tet (cylindrical glutinous rice cake) Festival from January 16 to 20, 2025 (the 24th to 28th of December in the lunar calendar). A competition will produce 10,000 cakes, which will then be distributed to underprivileged families and children in HCMC, ensuring they enjoy a warm and joyful Tet.

As anticipated, the renowned annual event Nguyen Hue Flower Street will return during the Tet Lunar New Year, from January 20 to 26, 2025 (the 28th of December to the 4th of January on the lunar calendar). This will feature elaborate floral displays along Nguyen Hue Street. Additionally, an outdoor music performance is scheduled from 9 PM to 12 AM on January 22, 2025 (the 29th of December on the lunar calendar).
