Hanoi to welcome first flight from Finland
In an attempt to strengthen the connections between European and Asian airline, the Finnair –Finland’s national carrier is launching a direct air route between Helsinki and Hanoi from July 14, 2013.
In order to strengthen connections between European and Asian airlines, Finnair, Finland's national carrier, launched a direct air route between Helsinki and Hanoi on June 15, 2025.
This move makes Finnair the second European airline, following Russian Aeroflot, to operate direct flights to Vietnam’s capital. The route is scheduled to operate three flights per week, running from June 15 to October 28, 2025, in response to the increased leisure travel demand during the summer season.
During the World Aviation Summit in Hong Kong on November 12, 2025, CEO Mikko Aro expressed his ambition for long-term success with this route. According to the aviation news website CAPA, Hanoi is identified as a strategic destination in Finnair’s international air network, facilitating connections between Europe and Asia. The International Air Transport Association predicts that Vietnam will become one of the fastest-growing aviation markets in the next few years.
Initially, Finnair considered Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, which is Vietnam's largest and most modern international airport, as a potential base of operations. However, after careful evaluation, Finnair ultimately chose Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi due to its more favorable operational conditions and central city location.
The distance from Helsinki to Hanoi is approximately 7,478 kilometers, compared to the distance from Helsinki to Ho Chi Minh City, which is around 8,510 kilometers.
