Hanoi Museum to Undergo Renovation

Hanoi museum was a major project of the 1000 years celebration. Together with Hoa Binh park, the two sites were finished just prior to October 10th last year and represented the two most funded construction projects for the anniversary.

The Hanoi Museum remains a significant landmark, commemorating the city's 1000-year celebration, which took place in 2010. Alongside Hoa Binh Park, these two sites were completed shortly before October 10, 2010, representing the most heavily funded construction projects initiated for the anniversary.

The museum offers a rich collection of exhibits from various eras and dynasties across Hanoi's extensive history. Its unique architecture, characterized by a "reverse pyramid" shape, sets it apart from the city's typical high-rise structures. This innovative design is inspired by the iconic One-Pillar Pagoda, which itself is modeled after the lotus flower, a symbol of purity and enlightenment in Vietnamese culture.

The original funding for the museum was estimated at approximately 2.3 trillion VND (Vietnamese Dong). With an additional 760 billion VND allocated for renovations completed since that time, total investments have reached around 3.06 trillion VND, equivalent to roughly 150 million USD.

Despite the initial substantial investment, the hurried construction process to meet the October deadline raised concerns about the quality of the work. Critiques from leading curators worldwide have pointed out issues with the display layout, attributing these flaws to the insufficient time allowed for thorough planning and assessment.

In 2021, the museum began a significant renovation project aimed at enhancing the building's infrastructure and visitor experience. The Hanoi government has announced that these renovations are scheduled for completion by the end of the 2023 fiscal year.
