“Asia offers the most reasonable prices while Europe is the most expensive region for tourism”, reviewed by TripAdvisor when introducing a list of the most expensive and cheapest tourism destinations of the world, of which Hanoi is listed as the second cheapest city to visit.
“Asia continues to offer some of the most budget-friendly travel options, while Europe generally retains its status as the most expensive region for tourism,” according to TripAdvisor’s latest annual report on the most and least expensive travel destinations worldwide. This year, Hanoi remains the second cheapest city to visit.
TripAdvisor's methodology involves evaluating the total cost for a complete tour for two, which includes one night in a four-star hotel, dinner with premium red wine, a cocktail party, and 6 km of taxi travel, to compile its list of the ten most and least expensive tourist cities globally.
According to the latest findings, tourists visiting Oslo, Norway, are faced with the highest travel costs, with an average budget of $612.50 required for a complete trip. Other cities that rank among the most expensive in Europe include Zurich (Switzerland), Stockholm (Sweden), Paris (France), London (England), and Copenhagen (Denmark).
In contrast, the majority of cities on the least expensive list are located in Asia. In addition to Hanoi, Bangkok (Thailand) ranks 6th, and Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) takes the 7th spot amongst the most budget-friendly tourist cities.
While TripAdvisor emphasizes the affordability of travel in Asia compared to Europe, there are exceptions. Notably, Singapore ranks as the 10th most expensive city globally, despite being in Asia, while Sofia (Bulgaria) is highlighted as one of the cheapest destinations in Europe.
To ensure accuracy, TripAdvisor collects data from 49 popular tourist destinations worldwide, drawing on statistics compiled by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), which tracks tourism trends and visitor numbers.
