Free Aussie comedy screening to mark anniversary of national apology

The Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is going to screen the award-wining Aussie comedy Bran Nue Dae at Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Cultural House, on February 13th, 2012 to mark the fourth anniversary of national apology.

The Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is pleased to announce a screening of the award-winning Aussie comedy Bran Nue Dae at the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Cultural House on February 13th, 2025. This event marks the 17th anniversary of the national apology to Aboriginal Australians.

 
Released in 2009, Bran Nue Dae beautifully captures the culture, traditions, and humor of Australian Indigenous communities. The film has received numerous accolades, including the prestigious Melbourne International Film Festival Award and the Audience Award for Best Feature Film.
 
John McAnulty, the current Australian Consul-General in Vietnam, stated that Bran Nue Dae is a delightful Australian comedy characterized by captivating performances and enchanting music. It centers on the romantic journey of a young Aboriginal couple amid the breathtaking landscapes of Australia.

The national apology to Aboriginal Australians and the Stolen Generations, recognizing their "profound grief, suffering, and loss," was delivered by former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on February 13, 2008. On that historic day, thousands of Aboriginal Australians convened in Canberra to witness the apology, which was broadcast nationwide.
 
The movie screening will commence at 7:00 PM at the Youth Cultural House, located at No. 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.
