Free Aussie comedy screening to mark anniversary of national apology

The Australian Consulate-General in Ho Chi Minh City is going to screen the award-wining Aussie comedy Bran Nue Dae at Ho Chi Minh City’s Youth Cultural House, on February 13th, 2012 to mark the fourth anniversary of national apology.

Depicting the culture, tradition and humor of Australian indigenous groups, the 2010 movie has won prestigious awards, including the Melbourne International Film Festival Award and Audience Award for Best Feature Film.
 
John McAnulty, the Australian consul in Vietnam said Bran Nue Dae was a charming Australian comedy, with compelling acts and fascinating music, focusing on the romantic adventures of a young aboriginal couple set in the stunning beauty of Australian nature.

The national apology to all Aborigines and the Stolen Generations for their “profound grief, suffering and loss” was issued by the former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on February 13th, 2008. Thousands of Aboriginal Australians gathered in Canberra that day to watch the historic apology, which was televised nationwide. 
 
The movie screening starts at 7:00 pm, Youth Cultural House, no. 4 Pham Ngoc Thach Street, District 1, HCMC.
