Extended stays for transit passengers

Transit passengers can now lengthen their stay in Vietnam from the current limit of 5 days to 15 days. The official regulation will take effect from August 14th, 2011. Those staying over the stated time can apply for a visa-on-arrival for longer stay.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, transit passengers are going to be allowed to lengthen their stay in Vietnam from the current limit of 5 days to up to 15 days. The official regulation will take effect from August 14th, 2011.

This move is considered as a marked change that creates favorable conditions for transit tourists in Vietnam, considerably fostering the number of foreign tourists choosing Vietnam as their next destination. Transit travelers could make full use of their 15 day limit instead of the current 5 day limit to have a decent visit to famous attractions in the country.

The procedure for applying a transit permit in Vietnam is quite straightforward. International passengers just make sure that they have their transit permit application done by their travel agents before entering Vietnam. It will take no more than a business day to get things done, the Immigration Department has affirmed.

If you plan to stay longer than the stated period, or have no connecting flights after your stay, you will have to apply for a Vietnam visa in order to enter and remain in Vietnam. Visit our Visa Information page for further information.
