Dialektos Italian Jazz concert this weekend

Jazz enthusiasts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are getting the taste of Italian Jazz flavor with the live concert titled “Dialektos”, taking place at Labour Theater (42 TrangTien Street, Hanoi) on December 9th, 2001, and at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music (112 Nguyen Du Street, HCM City) on December 11th, 2011.

Jazz enthusiasts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are getting the taste of Italian Jazz flavor with the live concert titled “Dialektos”, taking place at Labour Theater (42 TrangTien Street, Hanoi) on December 9th, 2001, and at Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music (112 Nguyen Du Street, HCM City) on December 11th, 2011. The concert is held by the Embassy of Italy in Vietnam to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Italy Unification Day.

With the attendance of two talented Italian jazz artists: singer Maria Pia De Vito and pianist Huw Warren, the concert is expected to bring about impressive performances in which folk music blends seamlessly with strong rhythm and soulful melody.

As planned, Dialektos concert delights audiences with both vocal and instrumental pieces of music such as And the Kitchen Sink, Frevo em Maceio, Curiosity Threatens and O Pata Pata.

Maria Pia De Vito is one of the most talented Jazz singers in Italy, who won Critics Top Jazz Award for Best Singer in 2008 and 2009, and recognized as the best singer in Italy by Jazz It magazine in 2010. Huw Warren, the partner of Maria in the concert, is an energetic and creative composer and pianist, who always amazes audiences with his creative music. Huw Warren received BBC Jazz Award for Innovation in 2005.

Jazz, a genre of music with history of more than one hundred year remains unpopular in Vietnam with a limited number of professional Jazz artists and Jazz followers. In recent years, there are more and more Jazz concerts have been held in big cities of Vietnam such as Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, mostly are organized or sponsored by culture- exchange organizations.
